Prominent supporters

The continued injustice, caused by media "pre-conviction" and the unwillingness of the Arizona Courts and the justice system in this state in general, has infuriated a broad number of populace in Europe as well as in the USA. The Debra Jean Milke Case is being presented worldwide. As more details come to the surface, more and more supporters, especially in the ranks of prominent figures of all areas (politicians, accredited media journalists as well as actors/actresses) come forward to lend their support on signature lists and active endeavors through possible connections to stave off a "state-sanctioned murder". These people are donating their time and effort out of sheer conviction. None of them are doing it to "polish up their image" or to be in the "limelight". It is not a matter of business or public relations - they do not have to. It is to their merit and credit to them as people like "you and I". We are forever thankful.

It started out with German actress Angelika Wedekind, whose personal charisma caused a lot of public attention in Berlin with her personal ideas and various performances on the main thoroughfare in Berlin (Kurfürstendamm and Breitscheidplatz).

Based on the relentless informational work and diligence of a Berlin citizen, Wolfram Gisenstein, who formed the "Initiative of Freedom for Debbie Milke" and has spent almost all of his free time (rain or shine) to promote our campaign, he was able (with the help of a few other citizens) to bring Debbie's case into awareness of many prominent personalities in Germany - among them Richard von Weizsäcker, Egon Bahr, Horst- Eberhard Richter, Elmar Brähler, Regine Marquardt, Pastor Volkhard Spitzer, Friedrich Schorlemer, Christoph Diekmann, Udo Samel, Amanda Ooms, Peter Lohmeyer, Otto Sander, and many more.

It is also to his credit, that the best-known German actress, Uschi Glas, participated in the support from the very beginning. In April 2000, Ms. Glas addressed her belief of the innocence of Debbie Milke publicly. Since then, she had to face an audience of millions of people European-wide on TV and never shied away from an interview (permitting her personal work-schedule). She has even interrupted filming obligations to be available for print media interviews. Her efforts, together with Renate Janka, have alone resulted in many thousands of letters written to the various officials in Arizona and other relevant offices.

One of the most accredited American journalists in Germany for many years, DON FRANKLIN JORDAN, also became aware of the The Debra Jean Milke Case and was willing to debate the death penalty issue as well as this case with KARL HERMANN (chief editor of the Berlin Magazine TIP) on TV. Again, through the diligent work of Berlin citizen, Wolfram Gisenstein, MR. JORDAN was able to contact with Debra's mother, RENATE JANKA, directly. His personal recognition of the flaws in the court proceedings in Arizona prompted him to raise great concern as to what actually took place and motivated him to write letters to various officials, among them Attorney General of the State of Arizona, MRS. JANET NAPOLITANO in June 2001.

Because of the adamant media work of RENATE JANKA to present her daughter's case in the most serious manner on various news programs and selected European talk shows (HANS MEISER (talk show host), WOLFGANG PETERSEN (producer), ALFRED BIOLEK (talk show host), JÜRGEN FLIEGE, ELKE SOMMER (actress) and GÜNTHER JAUCH - the statement is: Debra had been wrongfully convicted and with the help of the above-mentioned she is determined to prove it and continue to gain the necessary support.
